San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisor's presented a Proclamation earlier this month to Proclaim August 2017 as Child Support Awareness Month in San Luis Obispo County.

San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisor's presented a Proclamation on August 8, 2017 to proclaim August 2017 as Child Support Awareness Month in San Luis Obispo County. August was proclaimed National Child Support Awareness Month in 1995.  The original proclamation stated, “Providing for our children is one of humanity’s worthiest and most fundamental endeavors.

Annually, San Luis Obispo Department of Child Support helps approximately 4,000 families and collects over $14 million dollars in child support for the children in our community.  At the Department of Child Support, we believe that  "your children are our priority". Our mission is to improve the quality of life and create opportunities for children by establishing and enforcing child support.

While San Luis Obispo County focuses on obtaining the financial and medical support a child needs, we encourage parents to consider how all types of support from a parent will shape their child's future.  The theme for Child Support Awareness Month 2017 implemented by the State of California DCSS is "give them something great to imitate."   Children grow and thrive with the commitment of their parents who provide for their needs and teach them by being a good role model. As stated in a well-known quote, "Your child will follow your example, not your advice."  Since children are great imitators, parents must give them something great to imitate.
