When and where is this service offered?

The Small Claims Court Advisory in San Luis Obispo County is part of the District Attorney’s Office’ Economic Crimes Unit.  The advisor assists parties involved in small claims matters at no cost, showing how to complete small claims forms, answering procedural questions, and identifying resources and publications. 

The advisor is not an attorney and cannot provide you with legal advice about your claim.  The advisor may only discuss issues relating to small claims court, and not other types of issues such as evictions.  The advisor may be offering advice to both plaintiff and defendant on the same small claims court matter.

SERVICES

Help to complete small claims forms, instructions on changes,
correctly listing parties, e-filing, electronic consent forms, serving initial paperwork and the Proof of Service rules.  Serving evidence to all parties and court, and questions about Zoom. Answers other procedural questions and gives referrals.

Hearings for Small Claims appearances are now “Hybrid” and either party may choose to be in person or attend via Zoom.  Judgment Debtor’s Exams are mandatory appearance in person for both parties.
The court counters are open 830am to noon. Monday-Friday.
The court phones are available 830am-400pm Monday-Friday at 805-706-3600. 
Small Claims cases continue to be heard in Grover Beach on Monday and Friday.
