Jail-Based Services

These services are available to individuals that are incarcerated and have been assessed as needing Mental Health and/or Substance Use Disorder Treatment.

This service is provided free of charge for those individuals that are incarcerated and have been assessed as needing Mental Health and/or Substance Use Disorder Treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the participants eligible to receive less custody time if they participate in these services.

While the jail and/or courts sometimes ask for a progress report, PRTS does not advocate for less custody time or interfere with jail operations.

How does someone that is incarcerated get assessed for these services?

Individuals will submit a “Kite” and give it to the officer on duty requesting assessment for these services.

Is everyone that is incarcerated eligible for these services?

San Luis Obispo County Jail has criteria for those that can be assessed. Of those that are screened / assessed only those that have been diagnosed with a Mental Illness and/or a Substance Use Disorder are eligible to participate in services.
