Geographic Information Systems

Who We Are

The GIS team within the Information Technology Department (ITD) is dedicated to supporting the enterprise GIS environment and specialized mapping and analysis projects. Our focus on all aspects of GIS needs at the county allows us to be the trusted partner in support of countywide and department specific GIS projects.

There are also other departments in the County of San Luis Obispo that have Geographic Information System (GIS) personnel. These teams provide GIS support for each of their areas of interest.

You can find more information on each department's GIS services below:

Mission

Our mission is to support and enhance the County's mission by collaboratively providing and maintaining accurate and current geographic information for the benefit of the San Luis Obispo community.

Services

GIS REST Services

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) REST services are a type of map service that allows for a greater sharing of data. REST Services provide an open way for web clients to communicate with GIS servers. Clients issue requests to the server through structured URLs. The server responds with map images, text-based geographic information, or other resources that satisfy the request.

GIS Parcel Data

The County of San Luis Obispo is engaged in a current project to bring Geographic Information Systems (GIS) parcel maintenance in-house to the Assessor's Office. However, until then we are unable to distribute these data.

Please contact ParcelQuest, owner of these data, to obtain a copy. If you are a contractor working for a County department, please provide them with your County point of contact for the project. We thank you in advance for your understanding.

County of SLO GIS Open Data Site

The County of San Luis Obispo Geographic Information Systems (GIS) teams are committed to providing transparency and easy access to as many GIS datasets as possible. To support this mission, they created an Open Data site through arcgis.com, which is the data repository for all publicly available SLO County GIS Data.

GIS Aerial Imagery

2011 Aerial Imagery - The County's 2011 aerial imagery was placed in the public domain. To obtain these data, please contact Drew Decker from the USGS at (619) 225-6430 or ddecker@usgs.gov
