What is the process?

Medi-Cal Application

Applications for programs can be done by phone, fax, online, and in person at any of the six Department of Social Service Offices or online at www.coveredca.com or BenefitsCal.  Offices are open 8-5 Monday – Friday excluding holidays

Application Received and Verified

Once a Medi-Cal Application is received the information is verified, that information is then compared to the criteria of the many different Medi-Cal programs available.

Eligibility Approved

If eligible you will have a case manager assigned, there will be instructions included on how to use these services and a managed care company that will assist you with choosing a primary care physician.  

Notification of Approval/Denial

Results of the approval or denial of your Medi-Cal application will be sent to you in writing.

Who can use this service?

This service is available to people who are over 65 years of age and Disabled (according to Social Security standards) individuals.

Is there a charge for this service?

The cost of this service can vary from zero to hundreds of dollars depending on the individual program, household income and household size.
