The Revenue Recovery Unit has modified its operations in 2004 to accommodate the revenue recovery needs of other County agencies. Recognizing this unprecedented opportunity to recover delinquent monies owed to them, some of these other County agencies have already entered into an agreement with the Probation Department to utilize the services of its Revenue Recovery Unit.
The first to do so was Drug and Alcohol Services who have assigned their past due debtors to the Revenue Recovery Unit. Persons who have not paid for the services rendered to them by Drug and Alcohol Services, are turned over to the Probation Revenue Recovery Unit. This arrangement protects the confidentiality of the debtor while providing revenue recovery for their court ordered programs.
The Superior Court has also entered into a similar arrangement with the Revenue Recovery Unit to enforce collection of court ordered fines that have gone delinquent. Court Operations is presently in the process of assigning over 6,500 delinquent fine accounts to the Probation Revenue Recovery Unit. These accounts are manually assigned by the Court to the Revenue Recovery Unit approximately 200 at a time. The Revenue Recovery Unit is automating the collection of these delinquent fines, using existing technology, to effect the successful recovery of these fine revenues.
The Revenue Recovery Unit, in order to minimize any possible confusion to the recipients of correspondence regarding these debts owed to non-Probation agencies, has adopted the title of "Revenue Recovery Unit" to better reflect the origin, intention and nature of that correspondence.
