Road Improvment Fees

Why is there a fee?

As more new homes and business are built in the county, more traffic congests the roads. To reduce this congestion, the existing roads need to be improved and new roads built. Existing funding sources will not cover the cost of these improvements. The Board of Supervisors has adopted an ordinance and resolution which will require builders of new homes and businesses to pay for the improvements.

What is the money for?

The money that is collected will be used to finance many different road projects. The money collected from you, will only be used to build road improvement projects and will not be used for road maintenance.

When must the fee be paid?

The fee must be paid before your project permit is issued. Keep in mind that the fees that are initially posted on your building permit are current estimated fees and that they can increase or decrease at any time.

How is the fee determined?

The Institute of Transportation Engineers has studied various types of development and found that each type of development generates a different number of trips during peak hours.
These studies generate factors that are used to calculate your road fee. We will use the type of study that best fits your development. For example, a retail business study would be used if that is your development.

The county has established road improvement fee areas in the following communities:

Avila
