• On March 14, 2002 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved Charter Communications’ petition for effective competition. As a result, the County of San Luis Obispo is no longer involved with rate regulation
• On September 29, 2006 Governor Schwarzenegger signed the Digital Infrastructure and Video Competition Act of 2006 (AB 2987) into law. The law replaces local franchises with a State-issued Franchise Agreement. As a result, the County of San Luis Obispo may not have local franchises after the Charter and San Simeon Franchise Agreements expire. Both cable operators are currently operating under local franchises and will at least until January 1, 2008.
