Los Osos Wastewater Project

Mission Statement: To evaluate and develop a wastewater treatment system for Los Osos, in cooperation with the community water purveyors, to solve the Level III water resource shortage and groundwater pollution, in an environmentally sustainable and cost effective manner, while respecting community preferences and promoting participatory government, and addressing individual affordability challenges to the greatest extent possible.

Phase 1 of the sewer lateral connections to the project will begin on March 28, 2016. Over the next year, property owners must have their private property connected to the system and decommission their septic system.  Review the Sewer Lateral Connections and Septic System Decommissioning page for more information.

LosOsos Water Conservation

 The County is currently implementing a water conservation program, which includes rebates for water saver fixtures.

All properties in this service area are required to meet the water conservation program guidelines prior to connection to the wastewater project

Representatives from the County are available to answer questions from residents and businesses regarding sewer lateral connections for their property, project costs, and answer any other issues related to the Los Osos Wastewater Project.

Meet with County staff during bi-weekly office hours at 2025 10th Street in Los Osos each Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Recent News and Events

April 29, 2016: Project Construction Quarterly Update (January through March, 2016).

April 22, 2016: A dedication Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting will be held at the Water Recycling Facility (2270 Los Osos Valley Road, across from Clark Valley Road) from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.  The event is open to the public.  Anyone planning to attend is requested to RSVP here

March 22, 2016: A sewer lateral connection workshop for property owners in the Phase 1 was held on March 22, 2016 at the Los Osos Middle School. The Powerpoint Presentation was about the lateral connection process and decommissioning the septic tank by either abandoning it in-place or converting it for reuse. There will additional workshops for Phase 2 and 3 properties as those phases begin.

March 11, 2016: An informational project brochure focused on the upcoming sewer lateral connection process has been mailed to all property owners in the wastewater service area.

February 25, 2016: The Planning & Building Department is now issuing Over-the-Counter Sewer Lateral Installation permits and the e-permit system for licensed contractors is available. The Sewer Lateral Connection Permit Fees are available for review.  Contact the Planning & Building Department at 781-5600 for more information.

February 5, 2016: Project Construction Update for the month of December 2015.

January 23, 2016: Lateral Connection Workshop was held for the public on Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Los Osos Middle School.  Three informational workshops presented information about the permit process and timeline, financial assistance for low income homeowners, options for reusing your septic tank to enhance water supply, and the opportunity to meet contractors who are interested in assisting with the work. January 8, 2016: Project Construction Update for the month of November 2015. 

December 17, 2015: November 2015 Baseline Groundwater Quality Report released to the Regional Water Quality Control Board.  This was an additional requirement under the WDR R3-2011-0001.  This report contains the latest Nitrate concentrations and Groundwater levels.
