Traffic and Transportation

The San Luis Obispo County Traffic Engineering Group is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of traffic on all County – Maintained roadways in the unincorporated area except for:


  • State Highways (Contact Cal-Trans (805) 549-3111)
  • City Streets (contact appropriate city or town)
  • Non- County maintained roads
  • Objectively define the future needs and costs of the System to meet Established County Policy


Services Provided  

  • Administer roads program to keep in good and safe repair the county's roads, culverts, bridges and traffic signs.

Currently We have:

194 bridge structures

1335 miles of roads total

   1092 miles of paved road

     241 miles of unpaved road

17 signalized intersections

54 street lights

4,628 culverts

151 cattle guards
