"Promoting the Wise Use of Land - Helping to Build Great Communities"

seal

The Geographic Technology and Design Section is organized under Long Range Planning within the Planning and Building Department.  We are responsible for creating maps and graphics used in County documents and studies.  We are also responsible for collecting, maintaining, organizing, and presenting geographic data.  Feel free to visit our Map Image Download Center for Adobe PDF versions of our most requested maps.  Also, a lot of our GIS data is available on our new Interactive GIS Mapping Website where you can search by APN or street address.  If you are running GIS software and need access to our data you can visit the SLO DataFinder where much of our data is available for download.

Interactive GIS Mapping Website

Here you can search by APN or street address and have access to several GIS data layers including aerial photography, parcels, combining designations, land use and much much more. This site also includes links to Tidemark parcel lookup.

Map Image Download Center

You can find many popular maps here including Land Use, Natural Resources, Natural Hazard Maps and more.  These files are in Adobe PDF format so you will need their viewer installed.  If you don't already have it you can get it on the Adobe  website. There are also Google Earth KMZ files available for download in which case you need to have Google Earth installed.

Online Zoning Information Lookup

Use our Tidemark System to look up zoning information by Assessors Parcel Number or by street address.  After learning which zone the property is located in you can refer to the County's Land Use Ordinance or Coastal Zone Land Use Ordinance to find information about what uses are allowed by visiting our Ordinance library.

SLO DataFinder

Our SLO DataFinder website contains free downloadable County and City GIS data for GIS program users.  The SLO DataFinder website is currently being hosted courtesy of the Kennedy Library and the Landscape Architecture Department at Cal Poly State University. Remember, you need special GIS software in order to use this information.

External Data Sources

Visit the Links page for a list of sites that contain other, non-county data and maps.  For instance if you are looking for Community Service District Boundaries or other special districts you should visit the Local Agency Formation Commission website.  Topographic maps with contour lines can be found on the USGS website.
