Your Responsibilities

Your Duties Serving the Public:

Although county government tackles a wide variety of problems and tasks, its central responsibility remains the same: TO SERVE THE PUBLIC.

As an employee of the County, this responsibility is shared by YOU. Together, we San Luis Obispo County Employees form a dynamic business; the business is helping people.

While helping people through the County service is certainly challenging and rewarding, it also places special emphasis on those of us in the business. The community expects a great deal from the public servants, and rightly so. Services are supported by taxpayers' money. We must be especially careful to see that we meet our obligations to the San Luis Obispo County community by:

  • Being courteous, competent, businesslike when dealing with people.
  • Beginning work on time and putting in a full day's work.
  • Dedication to the County, and the job we are doing, always striving to improve both.
  • Working cooperatively with fellow employees, supervisors and other departments.
  • Putting ourselves in the other person's shoes.
  • Keeping physically and mentally healthy.
Protection through safety is another important obligation we share. To protect ourselves, fellow workers and the public, all employees have the responsibility to use common sense in observing good safety habits on the job. It is our joint responsibility to watch for unsafe work procedures and conditions. These should be reported to your supervisor.
