Official Record Information
The Official Records Index for documents from 1970 to current is available on this website - Official Records Search. This index is updated nightly. The complete index (from 1850 to current) and images of the documents can only be viewed in person at either the San Luis Obispo or Atascadero office.
There are three methods for requesting copies of documents identified in the Official Records Index. The fee for copies and certified copies of documents can be found on the Fee Schedule (pdf).
How Can I Order a Copy of an Official Record?
-
In Person - Requests made in person at our San Luis Obispo or Atascadero location are completed while you wait, within about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the size of the order. For large copy orders or orders submitted after 4:30, there may be a one or more day turnaround.
-
By Mail - Send the requested document information (document # or book and page) along with a check or money order, made payable to SLO County Clerk-Recorder, in the required amount and a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

-
Using a Credit Card - Order the copy using your credit card (convenience fee $1.49) by:
faxing the request along with your credit card information to (805) 781-1111; or call our office to submit the request and provide credit card information (805) 781-5080.
Requests for official record copies submitted by mail or using a credit card are usually completed and mailed by the next business day via the U. S. Postal Service. If using a personal check or money order, contact the office for the overnight delivery fee.
