February 5 2008 Presidential Primary Election

WHAT’S NEW FOR THIS ELECTION

This is a Primary election in which those voters who are registered with one of the six qualified parties in California can express their choice for President of the United States. The qualified parties are: American Independent, Democratic, Green, Libertarian, Peace & Freedom and Republican. If you are a registered with one of these parties, you must vote that party’s ballot.

If you are registered as a decline to state voter or with a party that is not qualified in California, (this is called being an Unaffiliated Voter) you have a choice of which ballot to vote. You can vote a Non-Partisan ballot which contains only the state propositions, a Democratic Party ballot or an American Independent Party ballot. These are the only two parties that are allowing unaffiliated voters to vote in this primary.

If you wish to vote a party ballot other than the one with which you are registered or, as an unaffiliated voter, wish to vote a ballot for a party other than the Democratic or American Independent party, you must re-register to vote by the January 22nd deadline for registration.
