Notice of Privacy Practices

How medical information about you may be used and disclosed and how you can get access to this information is described in our Notice of Privacy Practices  (en Espanol).   In addition to information about privacy, these documents also contain information on how to contact someone with a question or complaint about health information privacy.

Laws Protecting Personal Health Information

Some of the services provided by the San Luis Obispo County Health Agency involve health information about the people we serve. We are responsible for protecting the privacy of personal health information in accordance with state and federal privacy laws.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy, Security and Breach Notification Rules, collectively known as the HIPAA Rules are the primary laws enacted to protect your health information. You can learn about the HIPAA Rules by visiting the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website for Health Information Privacy at: http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/index.html.
