Our programs:
Friday Night Live: In over 20 school sites across the County, Friday Night Live offers a youth development framework for building the capacity of middle and high school aged youth to reduce substance use, improve school climate and promote positive lifestyles among youth.
Drug-Free Communities: The Drug Free Communities (DFC 101) Project places resources directly on college and university campuses to support the prevention needs of first-year programming, including orientation programs, housing and peer education. Additionally, DFC 101 expands prevention efforts addressing graduating high school seniors in their preparation for college through college-based FNL chapters . The DFC 101 Task Force is comprised of various community partners dedicated to reducing problems associated with youth substance use, particulary in the college environment. The SLO STOP Project is DFC-supported effort to reduce underage drinking and its related problems.
General Prevention: Our team coordinates public events such as Red Ribbon Week, 3-D Month, Alcohol Awareness Month, and Recovery Happens Month, along with providing in-services, training, and education throughout the County.
Mental Health Services Act- Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI): PEI programming has been developed through a countywide planning process with the goal of building the capacity of the community to increase resiliency by decreasing risk factors, and increasing the protective factors which promote positive mental health and reduce the negative impact of mental illness. Drug and Alcohol Services is administering this community-wide series of innovative prevention programming.
Outreach Programs: As part of the County's Preventive Health Grants, our staff are co-located in community centers in San Miguel, Shandon, Cambria and Oceano to provide parenting education, substance abuse information, and activities for families.
