Potassium Iodide (KI) should only be ingested upon the direction of the San Luis Obispo County Health Officer following an Emergency at the Diablo Canyon Power Plant. Any recommendation would be announced through the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and the media. People living or working within the Emergency Planning Zone (click here to view the EPZ map) should review emergency information contained in the fullsize version of the AT&T phone book.


If you live within PAZs 1 through 12 (see the above map) you may obtain your personal supply of Potassium Iodide from the following locations:

Potassium iodide is a chemical compound that contains iodide, which is necessary for the normal functioning of the thyroid gland. It is known by the chemical symbol, KI.  Potassium iodide is the iodine in iodized salt. Most people ingest it every day without being aware of it.
