The San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department wants to ensure that all families have access to quality healthcare. Staff is available to assist families in determining their eligibility for free or low-cost health insurance including the Healthy Families and Medi-Cal health insurance programs.

The Healthy Families Program of California provides affordable health insurance programs for families with dependent children ages 0 to 19 who qualify, with rates as little as $4 per month per child to a maximum of $27 per family. Features of the Healthy Families Health Insurance Program are:

• Choice of low-cost comprehensive medical, vision, and dental insurance
• $5 for regular office visits; free physical exams and immunizations
• Family property does not count for eligibility
• Parent’s immigration status does not affect child’s eligibility
• Program does not affect eligibility status of those applying for residency or citizenship
