CHIP pays physicians for uncompensated emergency, obstetric, and pediatric medical services, and pays designated hospitals for any services provided for patients who are unable to pay and who do not qualify for other public medical assistance programs. Patients do not apply for this program. Providers bill Health Systems for possible CHIP reimbursement of uncompensated care.
