Update on Grant Applications for Local Health, Community Services

The deadline to apply has been extended to May 1, 2020 at 5 p.m.
Submissions for Community Based Organizations and Preventative Health (CBO/PHG) Grants will be extended as the community confronts the Coronavirus incident together.
The County of San Luis Obispo will award Community Based Organizations and Preventative Health (CBO/PHG) Grants to local programs or projects that support and complement (but do not duplicate) the efforts of the County's health and human services departments. Both public and private nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply by May 1, 2020 at 5 p.m. To honor physical distancing, all grant submissions are to be sent to [email protected] for processing.
The grant funding is meant to promote the health and well-being of the community and encourage behaviors and activities that focus on enabling County residents to reach and maintain optimal health stability and independence. The County will host a public information meeting to provide details about the application process, criteria for funding, and answers to questions at the San Luis Obispo Veterans Hall (801 Grand Avenue) in San Luis Obispo on March 26 at 10:30 a.m.
Grant applications will be reviewed by the CBO/PHG Review Committee, which is made up of representatives appointed by the Adult Policy Council, the Behavioral Health Advisory Board, the Health Commission and the Children's Services Network. The Board of Supervisors will review the Committees recommendations and make final funding allocations this summer.
The County received a total of $2 million in grant requests for the current fiscal year. However, the County awarded about $1.5 million in grant funding – about $1.2 million from the County’s General Fund to community-based non-profit organizations, and $348,000 from tobacco lawsuit settlement funds for preventive health programs.
