The County is now accepting grant applications for the Community Based Organizations and Preventative Health Grant.

Nonprofits that promote the personal health, stability, independence and well-being of people in San Luis Obispo County have about six weeks to apply for a substantial public grant for the next fiscal year that runs from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019.

Grant applications are due no later than Jan. 31, 2018, but applicants can attend a public information meeting on Jan. 5 at 10 a.m. to receive valuable details about the application process, criteria for funding, and answers to questions. This meeting will be held at the County Government Center, 1055 Monterey Street, D430 (fourth floor), in downtown San Luis Obispo.

The County of San Luis Obispo will award to local programs that support and complement, but do not duplicate, the efforts of the County’s health and human services departments. The applicants must promote the optimal health, stability, independence and well-being of county residents. Both public and private nonprofit organizations may apply, but programs and projects must be carried out in San Luis Obispo County. The application can be found on the County’s website at Community Based Organizations and Preventative Health Grant (CBO/PHG).

Grant applications will be reviewed by the CBO/PHG Review Committee, which is made up of representatives appointed by the Adult Services Policy Council, the Behavioral Health Advisory Board, the County Health Commission and the Children's Services Network. This committee will make recommendations to the County Administrative Officer and the Board of Supervisors for grants awarded during Fiscal Year 2018-19.

Last year, the County received 65 grant applications from 54 nonprofit organizations requesting about $1.8 million, and approximately $1.5 million in grant funding was awarded to assist more than 62 local community-based organizations and preventative health programs. Visit the County’s website to review the formal request for applications (RFA) and grant application (Community Based Organizations and Preventative Health Grant (CBO/PHG). Applications are due to the County Administrative Office by Jan. 31, 2018 by 5 p.m. For questions, please contact Nikki Schmidt in the Administrative Office at (805) 781-5011.
