SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – The County of San Luis Obispo has the top performing child support services agency in the state of California, according to a recent report by the California Department of Child Support Services to the state legislature.

The state department reported its annual rankings to the state legislature in February, with the County of San Luis Obispo taking the top spot for the fifth consecutive year. The rankings were based on the five federal performance measures during federal fiscal year 2016-2017, which runs October through September. While this is the fifth consecutive year the County has earned this title, it has been recognized as having the top-rated child support services in the state for 11 of the last 12 years.

“I’m proud of our Child Support Services Department for continually striving to do what’s best for the families and children of SLO County,” said County Administrative Officer Wade Horton. “Their work truly impacts children’s’ lives for the better.”

Out of California’s five federal performance measures for overall performance, the County ranked first out of 50 local child support enforcement agencies. These measures include paternity establishment percentage, percentage of cases with a child support order, current collections performance, arrearage collections performance, and cost effectiveness. By enforcing orders and collecting support, the County successfully distributed nearly $14 million to families in federal fiscal year 2016-2017.

The County and state child support professionals work together so that children in the system can rely on their parents for the financial and medical support they need to be healthy and successful.
