Adult Residential Programs
The Behavioral Health Department assists in making referrals for the placement of adults in mental health residential programs and secure mental health residential programs. This service is primarily available to clients who are receiving County Mental Health Services and who are on Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Conservatorship. Individuals or families can contact the assigned mental health provider for further information.

FAQs
Yes, community housing is available through Transitions Mental Health Association. Individuals must be referred by their County Mental Health provider to be considered for community housing.
For questions regarding the conservatorship process, please contact the Public Guardian’s Office: (805) 781-5845. The individual must be assessed by designated professionals to determine that they meet the criteria for grave disability due to severe mental illness.
If your family member is currently receiving County Mental Health Services, you may talk with their provider about the possibility of placement in one of the Adult Mental Health Residential Programs based on availability and ability to pay.
To be housed in any of the Secure Adult Mental Health Residential Programs, the individual must be first be conserved by the County of San Luis Obispo Public Guardian’s Office.
