Screening is the first step for anyone who is seeking drug and alcohol treatment or evaluation through Drug and Alcohol Services. The public is welcome to walk in and request services. We offer treatment for voluntary as well as mandated clients. After completing a screening to determine if treatment is medically necessary, a full assessment for placement in treatment is scheduled and a plan for treatment is developed between the individual seeking help and the counselor.
Youth clients can be screened in Drug & Alcohol Services locations as well as at the Prevention & Outreach offices at 277 South St., Ste. T, in San Luis Obispo.
Who can use this service?
If you or someone you care about is struggling with addiction, please call one of our clinics to schedule a screening, so we can offer you support and connection to services.
Following Public Health guidelines, all visitors will be screened for symptoms and have their temperature taken by a staff member upon entry. Masks must be worn in our clinics. Telephone and telehealth services will continue to be available at all clinic locations, if you are sick or experiencing any symptoms, please stay home and call for services.
During walk-in clinic, you will receive a screening in a one-to-one individual session with a qualified Specialist to help you decide what level and what kind of behavioral health treatment may be beneficial to you. Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and Detoxification screening can be completed at each regional walk-in session or call the clinic for more information or an appointment as needed.
Please note that all walk-ins are on a first-come, first-served basis, with no appointment necessary. If there are too many people before you, you may be asked to schedule another appointment via telephone, Zoom for HealthCare, or in-person.
You can fill out the Drug & Alcohol Intake Packet before your visit.
Is there a charge for this service?
Outpatient treatment costs are covered under Medi-Cal and other participants costs will be based on a sliding fee scale. Private insurance coverage will need to be determined by the individual participant and their insurance provider.
Some services may be covered under other funding sources such as a CWS referral or specialized grants. Please ask when applying for services if that may be an option for you.
