Graduates of the January Foundations in Excellence Academy

Congratulations to the 29 employees who graduated from the January 2020 “Foundations in Excellence” course offered by the Learning and Development Center! Graduates were celebrated at the January 16th graduation ceremony for completion of the County’s 11th Foundations in Excellence class.  Executives, managers and supervisors from many of the graduates’ departments attended the graduation ceremony to honor their staff.

The Foundations in Excellence program is a relatively new, customized program designed to meet the needs of staff who do not have supervisorial responsibility and are interested in learning some of the tools, concepts and best practices taught in the leadership academies.  In this two-day course, participants:

  1. Take the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment to discover their natural talents and learn strategies to develop these talents into strengths to achieve performance excellence.
  2. Develop their Emotional Intelligence skills to effectively manage their own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict.
  3. Develop their personal leadership skills learn how to leverage these to influence the success of their team and department.
  4. Develop their resiliency skills to effectively adapt to the constant change occurring around them.

The Foundations in Excellence course was first introduced in the fall of 2017, and since then, 323 employees have graduated from the program.  This course has been offered four times per year and is now offered six times per year. It is in high demand. In order to participate, employees must be nominated by their departments. If you are interested in attending a future Foundations in Excellence class, please let your supervisor know that you would like to be nominated by your department.
