What is the process?

Make Request

Access to various records, including construction permit records issued after the year 1990, are available on CSS Permit Portal Public Records.  If the record is not found you may submit a California Public Records Act (CPRA) Request to the Department of Planning & Building .

A CPRA Request may be submitted by completing the online CPRA Request Form, or by submitting a request to the Department of Planning & Building via one of the following methods:

  • US mail or in person: 976 Osos Street, Room 300, San Luis Obispo, CA 93408.

Receive Response

Department of Planning & Building staff will respond to the request within 10 business days of receipt of the request. In some instances, 14 days may be required to respond as authorized by California Public Records Act. If hard copy records are requested, any duplication fees must be paid at the time of duplication.
