Accessory Dwelling Unit Laws Explained

On October 9, 2019, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed several bills to further facilitate the development of accessory dwelling units (ADUs). Specifically, the signing of SB 13, AB 68, and AB 881 made significant changes to State ADU Law.

The County of San Luis Obispo will be implementing the provisions of the new State ADU Law when the three (3) bills become effective on January 1, 2020.

The following information is being provided to answer many frequently asked questions pertaining to the changes in ADU standards.
