Be a Part of the Process: Help us Prepare for an Emergency

Join us on Wednesday, October 23 from 5:30-7:30 PM at the San Luis Obispo Library for a public workshop on the Safety Element Update. The Safety Element addresses a wide range of hazards - natural and human-induced - and consists of goals and policies aimed at reducing the risks associated with these hazards such as loss of life, injuries, property damage, and economic and social dislocation.

The County Department of Planning and Building is working on an update to the Safety Element using the latest hazard mapping resources that are consistent with state law and federal requirements. This update will lead to the implementation of effective mitigation projects and climate adaptation strategies. When completed, the County and local city jurisdictions will utilize the Safety Element Update to address hazards in a coordinated effort using a whole community approach.

Local agencies, neighboring jurisdictions, and stakeholders have been involved in the planning process to raise awareness of this effort and provide an opportunity for input.
