Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning

The Department of Planning and Building has created a webpage to keep the public updated on the progress of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning.


On March 29, 2021, PG&E submitted a land use application for the decommissioning of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. PG&E also intends to file supplemental application information estimated in June. County staff and relevant agencies will now be conducting an application completeness review. This review is  to determine whether the application contains sufficient information to enable staff to initiate the required environmental analysis pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act.  For the Diablo Canyon decommissioning, this will entail the preparation of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR).  However, it is important to note that the application cannot be deemed “complete” until the supplemental application information has been submitted and reviewed.
