Industrial Hemp Ordinance Next Steps

Author: Department of Planning and Building
Date: 11/20/2019 9:55:21 AM

The Industrial Hemp Ordinance will be presented to the Board of Supervisors on April 7, 2020.

On January 23, 2020, the Planning Commission reviewed the draft Industrial Hemp Ordinance and recommended approval of the amendments with three suggestions including:

  • Reducing minimum lot sizes subject to a discretionary permit
  • Requiring a discretionary permit for cultivation depending on the setback from urban and village reserve lines
  • Exploring whether industrial hemp should be limited within special areas of the County.

The public hearing draft that was reviewed by the Planning Commission and the agenda packet from the January 23, 2020 meeting is available.

Staff will present the Industrial Hemp Ordinance, which includes the Planning Commission’s recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on May 5, 2020.

You may submit written comments to the attention of Kip Morais, Project Manager, and Brian Pedrotti, Supervising Planner, via email: [email protected]

Additional information on industrial hemp cultivation in the unincorporated areas of San Luis Obispo County can be found by visiting the Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures.
