After an extensive search, the County of San Luis Obispo Department of Planning and Building is pleased to announce that Airlin Singewald has been hired as Division Manager. Airlin will lead a team of 12 staff and will be responsible for managing long-term planning projects in the unincorporated county as well as housing policies and programs.

With over 16 years of planning experience, Airlin was first introduced to the profession in 2003 when he worked for the Department of Planning and Building as an intern. Airlin graduated from Cal Poly in 2005 with a degree in City and Regional Planning and worked for two years as a planning consultant, managing affordable housing programs for city and county jurisdictions throughout California. Airlin returned to the County Department of Planning and Building in 2007 where he processed land use permits and subdivisions, managed the preparation of complex environmental documents, and worked with community stakeholders and decision-makers to develop general plan and ordinance updates.

In 2017, Airlin became Supervising Planner, Housing Programs for Planning and Building where he was responsible for the development of the County’s Housing Initiatives Package, creating an affordable housing funding strategy, and providing oversight of the County’s federal housing and community development grant program.

“Airlin got his start in planning working as an intern for this department and we are thrilled to offer him this promotion to Division Manager,” said Trevor Keith, Director of Planning and Building. “Airlin is a skilled planning professional and has proven to be an asset to the department. We are confident he will continue to be an excellent mentor to the staff he supervises.”
