Unemployment Rate for San Luis Obispo County saw an increase in February 2024
The San Luis Obispo County Monthly Employment Report (February 2024) shows an increase in the civilian labor force, an increase in civilian employment, and an increase in civilian unemployment.
Unemployment
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported the unemployment rate was 4.3% in February 2024, which is an increase from the revised January 2024 rate. SLO County ranks as the 6th lowest Unemployment Rate in the state. The unadjusted Unemployment Rate in California is 5.6% and 4.2% in the nation during the same period.
Month-over Job Changes
The Government industry experienced the most job growth in this reporting period, adding 500 jobs.
The Private Education and Health Services and Leisure and Hospitality industries each added 200 jobs during the month of February. The Manufacturing, Professional and Business Services, and Other Services industries all added 100 jobs during the same reporting period.
The Mining, Logging, and Construction, Information, and Financial Activities industries saw no changes in job loss or growth during the month of February.
The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities industry reported the most losses with 200 for the same reporting period.
Total Farm gained 800 jobs during the month of February.
During the same reporting period, San Luis Obispo County gained a total of 1,800 jobs.
Year-over Job Changes
The Leisure and Hospitality industry experienced the largest year-over change, adding 1,000 jobs. The Professional and Business Services industry experienced a year-over gain of 500 jobs. The Private Education and Health Services industry added 400 jobs from the same time this past year. The Manufacturing industry experienced an increase of 200 jobs over the past year. The Trade, Transportation and Utilities and Financial Activities industries each saw an increase of 100 jobs from the same time last year.
The Government industry lost 1,200 jobs this past year. The Other Services industry experienced a loss of 200 jobs since this same reporting period in 2023. The Information industry also reported losing 100 jobs as did the Mining, Logging, and Construction industry.
Total Farm experienced a year-over gain of 100 jobs.
Overall, employers in San Luis Obispo County gained 800 jobs over the past year.
