County Earns Highest Recognition for Financial Transparency

The County Auditor-Controller’s Office recently earned the highest form of recognition in the U.S. and Canada for demonstrating transparency regarding the County’s finances.

The Chicago-based Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded the County with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting on April 23 for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for fiscal year 2016-17.

“This is a significant accomplishment and shows just how dedicated we are to financial transparency,” said Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector Jim Erb. “The preparation of this document would not have been possible without efficient and dedicated County staff.”

The report was presented to the Board of Supervisors in January 2018 by the Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector and was produced in coordination with many County departments. The report was then judged by an impartial GFOA panel to determine if it met the high standards of the awards program, which includes demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate the County’s financial story and motivate others to read the report.

The County is required by state law to publish a complete set of financial statements audited by a firm of licensed certified public accountants. The Brown Armstrong Accountancy Corporation conducted an in dependent audit of the County’s financial statements for the FY 2016-17 report.
