44 Felony child porn charges filed against Atascadero teacher Chris L. Berdoll

Atascadero teacher Chris L. Berdoll (DOB 11/17/1969) was charged today with a total of 44 separate felony counts related to the production and possession of child pornography, involving 20 separate victims. The investigation is ongoing and the public is encouraged to contact Atascadero Police Department with any additional information.


On Friday, September 21, 2018, District Attorney Dan Dow announced that Chris Lynn Berdoll (DOB 11/17/1969), of Atascadero, is now charged with 44 felony counts related to child pornography.  Twenty-four counts allege that Berdoll used children under the age of eighteen to pose or model alone and with others for purpose of preparing photographs to depict child pornography.  Twenty additional counts allege that Berdoll was in possession of child pornography.  (Penal Code section 311.11(a) and section 311.4(c)). 

This case was initially referred to the District Attorney’s Office on September 13, 2018.  During the course of the ongoing investigation, several additional victims were identified leaving the total number of known victims at this time to be twenty children.

Given the sensitive nature of this ongoing investigation, no further information is available about the victims. While the Atascadero Police Department and the District Attorney’ Bureau of Investigations continue to investigate the case, we encourage any persons with information that may lead to additional victims or witnesses to contact the Atascadero Police Department.

Mr. Berdoll’s case is scheduled for Arraignment on September 24, 2018 at 8:30 am in Department 3 of the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court.  At the arraignment, the District Attorney’s Office will seek a Criminal Protective Order to prohibit Mr. Berdoll from having any contact with any of the victims in this case.
