Judge sentences Cody Julian to 24 years-to-life for his conviction of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 10.

District Attorney Dan Dow announced today that Cody Julian of Arroyo Grande has been sentenced to 24 years-to-life for his conviction of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 10.

District Attorney Dan Dow announced today that Cody Julian (31) of Arroyo Grande has been sentenced to 24 years-to-life for his conviction of five counts involving the sexual abuse of a child under the age of 10, which occurred in 2016.  Julian was convicted by a San Luis Obispo County jury on April 23, 2021.  He had previously been convicted of the same offenses in March of 2018, however the conviction was vacated by the Court of Appeal due to errors in the trial court.  This case was the retrial of the matter. 

The severity of the sentence is based on the gravity of the crimes and the young age of the victim.

At Julian’s sentencing the mother of the young survivor addressed the Court on the painful impact that the defendant’s crime had upon the victim. 

“The young survivor demonstrated remarkable courage by reporting the crimes and participating in the criminal and victim justice process necessary to bring this predator to justice.  We are optimistic that this conviction and sentence will encourage victims of sexual assault to report such conduct to law enforcement,” said District Attorney Dan Dow.

This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Christopher B. White who was assigned to the District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit.  The case was investigated by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation.
