For some viruses, the protection we receive from a vaccine starts to wane over time. An additional dose of vaccine helps boost your immune response and make s sure you are protected from the virus.
Boosters are common for many vaccines, including Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis).

Booster Dose
Everyone ages 5+ who is fully vaccinated is eligible for an updated booster dose (bivalent, “Omicron booster”) at least two months after their most recent vaccine dose.
