County Report Indicates Decline in Homelessness

Homelessness in San Luis Obispo County appears to have decreased in 2015 compared to 2013, according to the 2015 Homeless Point-in-Time (PIT) Census Report released on October 2 by the Homeless Services Oversight Council of San Luis Obispo County. Read the press release.

County Saves Water Ratepayers $12.7 Million

San Luis Obispo, Templeton, and Paso Robles water ratepayers will save more than $12.7 million after the County of San Luis Obispo successfully refinanced a portion of the Nacimiento Water Bonds in August, taking advantage of lower interest rates. Read more.

Latest Drought Updates: County Water Use Drops 35 Percent, Exceeding State Mandate

As the drought lasts and local reservoir levels continue to drop, the County of San Luis Obispo has reduced water use at public facilities and grounds by 35 percent since 2013, surpassing the 25 percent state mandate. Of the Utility Manager data collected by the County General Services Department, total water usage in July 2015 compared to July 2013 has dropped 35 percent at County facilities and grounds.

County Probation Recognized Statewide for Keeping Offenders Out of Jail

This month we received a prestigious award recognizing innovation in county government for a program that helps recently released offenders stay out of jail. The California State Association of Counties (CSAC) awarded the County of San Luis Obispo with a 2015 CSAC Challenge Merit Award for its innovative Post Release Offender Meeting (PROM) program, which quickly connects offenders with services soon after their release from incarceration. More than 250 entries were submitted for this year’s awards and the County’s program received one of only 42 awards distributed this year. Read more.

SLO County Regional Airport Terminal Approved for Construction

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on August 11 to move forward with a new airport terminal project after the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport was awarded a $15.6 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The estimated $35.4 million will be funded by several sources including, but not limited to, federal grants, passenger facility charges, customer facility charges, and bonds. The new terminal is expected to meet the current and future needs of the community and meet FAA safety standards. Read more

County Fire Issues Countywide Burn Ban

June 19, 2015 - California’s increased fire activity, this year, coupled with record-setting drought conditions, require us to take every step possible to prevent new wildfires from starting. Effective June 19, 2015, CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo has suspended all burning permits and open fires within San Luis Obispo County. Campfires within organized campgrounds or on private property are allowed if they are in a designated campfire site that prevents fire from spreading outside the site. Fire Department Training that uses fire is allowed with expressed approval from the Unit Chief.  Read more.
