County Tourism Business Improvement District Local Area Grants

On May 12, 2009, the Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance establishing the San Luis Obispo County Business Improvement District (“CBID”), fixing the boundaries, providing for levy of a 2% business assessment on all lodging businesses (hotel, motel, bed and breakfast, and vacation rentals) within the boundaries of the District.  Of the 2%, 1% is given to local fund areas for marketing and tourism as well as the Local fund grants.

There are 2 opportunities to apply for grants through the County's Unincorporated Area Tourism Business Improvement District (CBID) Local Areas.

  • One is funds for projects and events that are directly related to an increase in lodging (overnight stays, length of stay and return visits) and tourism within the unincorporated regions:

San Simeon, Cambria, Cayucos, Avila Beach, Los Osos Baywood Park, Unincorporated area of Morro Bay, Oceano/Nipomo, Unincorporated Arroyo Grande and Edna Valley, Unincorporated San Luis Obispo, Santa Margarita and Creston

  • Second is funds for infrastructure or beautification.  These are defined as one time projects from one of the areas listed above that enhance the communities cultural, environmental, recreational, or historical assets that will benefit the visitor, and the residents alike.
