There are countless reasons why people who are sexually assaulted or abused do not report what happened. Lack of a “timely filed” report does not mean the abuse did not happen and those who do bravely come forward must be supported. This is not a partisan political issue. It is a culture issue.
44 Felony child porn charges filed against Atascadero teacher Chris L. Berdoll

Atascadero teacher Chris L. Berdoll (DOB 11/17/1969) was charged today with a total of 44 separate felony counts related to the production and possession of child pornography, involving 20 separate victims. The investigation is ongoing and the public is encouraged to contact Atascadero Police Department with any additional information.

Jose Diaz (47) found guilty of committing Lewd Act Upon a Child and Child Molestation

On Monday, September 24, 2018, a San Luis Obispo County jury found Jose Luis Diaz (DOB 09/06/1971) guilty of two counts of Committing a Lewd Act on a Child and one count of Child Molesting. The verdict was delivered after a two-week trial and 2 hours of deliberation.
Jury finds Gino Lopez Guilty of Gross Vehicular Manslaughter for 2016 DUI Crash

In the early afternoon of September 5, 2018, after being unable to reach a verdict on a charge of murder, a jury convicted Gino Lopez (DOB 12/23/1994) of felony Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while intoxicated for the 2016 traffic collision that killed 16-year old Grizzly Academy graduate Emily Reyes on the Cuesta grade.
Michael Smith (55) Sentenced to 20 years in State Prison for Stalking

On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, Michael Sidney Smith (DOB 12/26/1967) plead guilty to felony Stalking with a Prior Conviction for Criminal Threats and to an additional charge of making Criminal Threats. He was sentenced to twenty years in State prison.
UPDATE: Investigation of Atascadero Fine Arts Academy teacher Chris Berdoll

The City of Atascadero Police Department has referred the investigation of Chris L. Berdoll to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office for review and potential filing of criminal charges. Berdoll is being investigated for conduct that occurred while employed as a teacher with the Atascadero Fine Arts Academy.
