Independent Living Program (ILP)

What is the process?

Inquire about eligibility

To determine if you are eligible to participate in ILP, please contact your assigned social worker or probation officer. If you do not know who your social worker or probation officer is, or if you have already exited foster care, please call our intake hotline at 805-781-5437 or the ILP Program directly at 805-781-3535. You may also walk in to any San Luis Obispo County Department of Social Services office, which are open Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (closed on County-observed holidays), or visit www.slofostercare.com; click on Resources, then visit the Foster Youth tab. 
 

Who can use this service?

This service is available to any youth in foster care at any time between their 14th and 18th birthdays can be served by ILP, even after their foster care case closes, up to the age of 21. This service is also available to any youth in foster care who was/are between 16 and 18 years of age and in receipt of the Kinship Guardianship Assistance Payment Program (Kin-Gap)

Is there a charge for this service?

This service is provided free of charge.

When and where is this service offered?

This service is provided at any County of San Luis Obispo Social Services office, which are open Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (closed on County-observed holidays). 

 

San Luis Obispo County’s Independent Living Program (ILP) program services are contracted and offered through the community non-profit Family Care Network, Inc.  Services may be offered in their SLO (1255 Kendall Rd, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401) or Atascadero (4450 El Camino Real, Atascadero, CA 93422) locations, as well as any of the DSS offices (contact info); however, services are primarily provided in the community, the youth’s home, and through the YESS and Life Skills classes held at Cuesta College (CA-1, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405).   Additional information can be obtained through the family’s assigned CWS Social Worker (if you do not know who the assigned social worker is, you may contact reception at 805.781.1700) or by calling the ILP office directly at 805.781.3535.
