San Luis Obispo County Partners Ready to Host 4th Free Clean Slate Clinic March 21, 2025

The District Attorney’s Office is once again teaming up with community partners to help local residents who qualify obtain criminal record expungement, felony reduction, and arrest record sealing on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the SLO County Law Library located at 1050 Monterey Street # 125, San Luis Obispo.


The purpose of the free Clean Slate Clinic is to assist qualified individuals eliminate a barrier to employment and housing caused by their criminal history.  A criminal record—no matter how old or how minor—can be a significant barrier to reentry for people when most employers, property managers and universities use background checks to screen applicants.

California law allows individuals to obtain this relief if they meet the required conditions. Our clinic will help individuals obtain the relief for which they are already entitled to receive.

This free event will mark the fourth time local partners have come together to assist our community in this manner.  Agency partners include the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office, San Luis Obispo County Probation Department, San Luis Obispo Defenders, Restorative Partners, People’s Justice Project, California Rural Legal Assistance, and San Luis Obispo College of Law.

The California Policy Lab is a research institute focused on addressing pressing social issues in the state and estimates nearly 1 in every 8 Californians with a criminal record is potentially eligible to obtain a full criminal record expungement; 81% of Californians with a criminal record are estimated to be eligible to have at least one prior arrest or conviction expunged.
