George Rodriguez Recio Sentenced to 73 Years to Life for Sexual Abuse of Three Children and a Young Adult Woman

District Attorney Dan Dow announced today that Grover Beach resident George Rodriguez Recio (74) was sentenced to 73 years to life in prison.
San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow announced today that George Rodriguez Recio, (DOB: August 4, 1952), has been sentenced to 73 years to life in state prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting four female victims.
On June 3, 2026, a San Luis Obispo County jury convicted Recio of 20 felony counts arising from the sexual abuse of four victims. At trial, jurors heard evidence that Recio abused the victims over many years, from 1996 through 2024. Three victims were between the ages of 6 and 12 when the abuse occurred, and one victim was 25 years old. The crimes occurred in Grover Beach.
Today, August 25, 2026, the Honorable Michael Frye sentenced Recio to 73 years to life in state prison. The Court also issued a criminal protective order prohibiting Recio from having contact with the victims and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.
Three victims attended the sentencing hearing and addressed the Court about the enduring trauma caused by Recio’s crimes. A victim advocate read the youngest victim’s statement to the Court on her behalf.
One victim stated:
“I am mad that you betrayed me and my trust. You were my friend. You were my Tío Pepe. Now you are my worst nightmare. You are the monster behind the closed door. Today, I create my own peace.”
“This sentence cannot undo the profound harm inflicted on these victims or restore the years of safety and peace that were taken from them,” said District Attorney Dan Dow. “But it does ensure that this defendant will be held accountable and no longer be able to victimize others in our community. The courage of these four victims—to come forward, tell the truth, and endure an extraordinarily difficult legal process—made this result possible.”
“Today belongs to these survivors,” Dow continued. “Their voices were heard, their rights were honored, and their strength helped secure accountability. Our criminal and victim justice system must never lose sight of whom it is designed to serve: victims and survivors of crime. We are grateful to the jury for its careful consideration of the evidence and for delivering justice in this case.”
The case was investigated by the Grover Beach Police Department, with assistance from the District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation. Deputy District Attorney Kristin Barnard of the District Attorney’s Office Sex Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
Throughout the case, the victims received support from Victim Advocate Dona Reed and Witness Coordinator Kellie Navarro of the District Attorney’s Christopher G. Money Victim Witness Assistance Center. Their work helped ensure that the victims had information, advocacy, support, and assistance navigating the criminal and victim justice system.
