5k Fun Run Supports Scholarships for Local High School Seniors.
The County of San Luis Obispo Friday Night Live (FNL) Partnership is thrilled to announce the return of the Reindeer Run 5K, happening Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Mitchell Park in San Luis Obispo. This festive community event invites runners, walkers, and cheer squads alike to dash, dance, and prance their way into the holiday season—all for a great cause.
Tickets are $30 per person (children under 5 are free), or $5 for meal tickets for those who do not wish to run. Day of tickets increase to $35 per person. All are encouraged to dress in holiday attire and enter the costume contest. Raffle prize giveaways and holiday activities will take place after the race. Proceeds fund scholarships for SLO County high school seniors who are active in FNL chapters, supporting their pursuit of higher education and leadership development.
“FNL is meant to provide a fun, safe and accepting space for students to not only build meaningful relationships with peers and trusted adults but to become empowered leaders by building their skills and understanding in leadership advocacy, mental health, and substance use,” said Friday Night Live Coordinator Katherine Gross.
Friday Night Live program has chapters at eleven middle schools and ten high schools in SLO County. Last year’s run raised funds to support 10 high schoolers with college scholarships. “FNL represents a safe space for me and the community. It is a place where I can hang out, make new friends, learn and foster new skills,” reports one local FNL member. “Not only that, but I think it also helps teach people the importance of mental health, and the dangers of drug use at one of the most impressionable times in their lives.”
Reindeer Run registration is available until noon on December 5th. To register for the race or to sign up as an event volunteer, visit www.slofnl.com.
