Welcome to the Third District of San Luis Obispo County
Hello, I am Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg. San Luis Obispo County has been my home for over 30 years, and I am very honored to represent District 3.
My term began in November of 2020 when I was appointed by the Honorable Gavin Newsom. This past June of 2022, I was elected by the voters to complete this term, which will end in 2024.
Day to day operations of County business is professionally handled by our departmental staff and my office is here to help in any way to ensure your needs are met. Whether it is repairing a pothole, or you want to share your ideas or concerns, please contact me through my Legislative Assistant, Kelley Abbas, at [email protected], or call our office at (805) 781-4336.
All things interest me, but for our County to continue to sustain our quality of life, we must address homes – all homes, whether it is for workforce or shelter for those experiencing homelessness, this is a critical priority for the well-being of our community. Mental health and social services are included in this effort to ensure support those in need. Our safety and security also include supporting law enforcement and courts, which require resources and leadership to introduce innovations. I acknowledge all the contributions of many people who make this county outstanding.
As your Supervisor, ensuring the quality of life for all includes water security and infrastructure, energy generation including safe operation of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, supporting new Offshore Wind and as much energy storage as possible. We are also home to a remarkable environmentally safe oil production plant called the Arroyo Grande Oil Field.
Agriculture, tourism, technology and small business deserve our attention as they bring in the jobs and the dollars that make our economy go – and their needs are important to understand and address. In addition, I serve on multiple County wide agencies and oversight committees.
My role expands outside of the County boundaries with my participation on two statewide organizations. I am on the PARKS CALIFORNIA Board of Directors, supporting the state parks throughout California including SLO County’s Hearst Castle, Montana de Oro and Oceano State Beach.
I am also the Vice President of the Latino Caucus of California Counties, proudly serving with other Latino Supervisors throughout the state, sharing our knowledge and understanding of often marginalized populations throughout our state.
In closing, my commitment is to you – my constituent. My years in private and public sector created my belief that we achieve our best successes when we work together.
San Luis Obispo County is a remarkable place to live, and many of our citizens contribute selflessly to others – which is the Motto of the County “Not for Ourselves Alone.” I take this statement and my oath seriously as it what makes our democracy a work in progress and thank you for your contribution to our community.
Sincerely,
Dawn M. Ortiz-Legg
