Election Information
- Processing of Vote-by-Mail, Central Tally, and Manual Tally of Ballots Legal Notice
- SLO County Voter Information Guides and Official Vote-by-Mail Ballots will begin arriving in mailboxes around the County by October 7. If you are currently registered but do not receive your guide and ballot by October 13, give us a call at (805) 781-5228.
- List of official ballot drop box locations and polling places. Drop boxes will be open beginning October 7 (or October 8 in locations that aren't open on Mondays). There are two 24-hour drop boxes: at the County Government Center in SLO and in the University Union at Cal Poly. All ballots collected from official drop boxes are collected by Elections Staff and remain in dual-custody throughout collection, transportation, processing, and tabulation.
- The California Secretary of State is holding online town hall meetings to cover what will be on your ballot and how to use their voter resources to make your plan to vote. These town halls are Tuesday, September 24 and Monday, September 30; both will be at noon.
- The San Luis Obispo Election Office will be open on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
- Logic and Accuracy (L&A) Testing will be conducted on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, beginning at 10:00 am in the Elections Center. Results of the testing will be presented Friday, October 4 at 2:00 pm in the Elections Center. This legally mandated testing confirms readiness of tabulation equipment prior to the upcoming election. This notice provides additional details.

- The California Secretary of State's Statewide Voter Information Guide is now online. So are the SLO County Voter Information Guides. A hard copy of the SLO County Voter Information Guide is also mailed to each registered voter along with their official Vote-by-Mail ballot.

The complete list of qualified candidates, including federal and state offices, will be available following receipt of the certified list of candidates from the Secretary of State on August 29, 2024. - Candidate Filing Guidelines
- The Candidate Filing Period runs July 15 - August 9 (extended to August 14 if an incumbent does not file). Beginning the first week of July, prospective candidates can call (805) 781-5228 to make a filing appointment in either SLO or Atascadero (appointments in Atascadero will be scheduled for Tuesdays and Wednesdays only).
- Candidate Statement Filing Form (for multi-county districts only)
- The County Office of Education is hosting a Candidate Workshop on August 19 for those who have filed as a trustee candidate for any of the SLO County school districts. For additional details, please contact Karla Knuckles at the County Office of Education, 805-782-7203. (Note that this event is on 8/19, not 8/18 as previously publicized.)
- Interested in filing as a trustee candidate for any of the SLO County school districts?
The County Office of Education is hosting a Candidate Workshop on June 26 from 5-8pm, 3350 Education Drive, San Luis Obispo (near Cuesta College). A recording of this workshop is available online. - The Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) offers a number of resources -- including webinars, videos, and trainings -- for candidates and committees.
Randomized Alphabet and Candidate Rotation Information
- The California Secretary of State and San Luis Obispo County will conduct their respective random alphabet draws at 11:00 am on August 15. San Luis Obispo's local draw is conducted at our office, located at 1055 Monterey Street, Suite D120 in San Luis Obispo. The public is invited to observe both processes.
