Mental Health Services Act (MHSA)
The passage of Proposition 63 (now known as the Mental Health Services Act or MHSA) in November 2004, provides the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) increased funding, personnel and other resources to support county mental health programs and monitor progress toward statewide goals for mental health.

Counties are required to develop work plans based on targeted components to carry out the goals and objectives of the Mental Health Services Act. These plans must be created in collaboration with consumers, family members, providers, and other community stakeholders.

MHSA addresses a broad continuum of prevention, early intervention and community services and support needs and the necessary infrastructure, technology and training elements that will effectively support this system.
The following Components have been planned and are being implemented in San Luis Obispo County:

- Workforce Education and Training (WET)

Community Stakeholder Information
To access the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA)funds, counties are required to develop work plans based on targeted components to carry out the goals and objectives of the Mental Health Services Act. These plans must be created in collaboration with consumers, family members, providers, and other community stakeholders. These plans, outlined in the annual update, are then open for review to stakeholders for 30 days before taken to the Behavioral Health Board for a final hearing.
