FAQs

Starting January 1, 2026 all licensed vacation rentals may be subject to annual inspections, however, the exact timing of that inspection is subject to a number of factors, including staff availability, location, and the number of other STR inspections.

If you have a current valid license for your vacation rental, then you can continue to operate unless you are contacted otherwise by the County.
The fee will cover the costs of reviewing short-term rental operations for compliance with the requirements for licensing.  That information can be found at the following link:
Title 22, Article 4, Section 22.30.510 Residential Vacation Rentals
No, this is a separate fee from the annual renewal fee for your businsess license.

The STR Annual Review Fee will be evaluated each year and may be adjusted through a formal action by the Board of Supervisors.  If there is a proposed increase or decrease to the fee, it will be reviewed during the budget process.

Unlicensed STR that are not in compliance with land use regulations and business license requirements are not collecting or reporting required transit occupancy tax.  Allowing these unauthorized vacation rentals put legally established vacation rentals at a competitive disadvantage, presents enforcement challenges and can result in negative impacts to our communities. The County will be pursuing enforcement action for these violations and the annual fee will support the staff needed to ensure this action.
