Multi-family homes play an important part in addressing housing affordability in the Central Coast region. Understanding the need for more multi-family housing, the Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted the Regional Housing Incentive Program on October 21, 2025. This new housing program will help builders increase general housing production, while leveraging funding to help nonprofit affordable housing builders deliver on much needed affordable housing. Builders looking to utilize the program’s incentives can contribute to affordable housing production by either building affordable units in new multifamily projects or contributing to the county’s affordable housing fund in exchange for the incentives offered through the program.
