The San Luis Obispo County Flood Control and Water Conservation District invites the community to upcoming engagement sessions for the DESAL Plan, a multi phase effort with local partners to explore a regional desalination project and strengthen long term water supply resilience in San Luis Obispo County.
As a coastal region with the support of a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART grant, our communities have a unique opportunity to explore ocean desalination as a reliable and resilient long-term water supply to help adapt to climate uncertainties and address future water needs. The District and DESAL Plan partners have reached a key milestone in the DESAL Plan Feasibility Study and are hosting community engagement sessions to share progress to date. Two identical Community Engagement Sessions will be held from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on both Monday, April 20, 2026, and Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
| Monday, April 20, 2026 | Tuesday, April 21, 2026 |
| Morro Bay Community Center 1001 Kennedy Way Morro Bay, CA 93442 |
Ramona Garden Park Center 993 Ramona Avenue Grover Beach, CA 93433 |
During these sessions, participants will learn how potential ocean desalination concepts are being evaluated, key technical, environmental, and economic considerations, and how desalination could fit within a broader water supply portfolio. These sessions are being held in different locations to improve accessibility for community members across the region, but the content will be the same, and attendees are encouraged to attend whichever is most convenient.
Please visit the DESAL Plan webpage at: https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/DESAL to join the email list, submit public comments, or view project materials as they become available. If you plan to come to the Engagement Sessions, please consider submitting an RSVP (see DESAL Plan website for details), so we can plan for refreshments and seating accordingly.
