Starting July 1, 2022, all cannabis business operators in the unincorporated areas of the County must collect tax at an 8% rate.

In 2018, San Luis Obispo County voters approved the Cannabis Business Tax (CBT), which is applicable to cannabis businesses operating in the unincorporated areas of San Luis Obispo County. This voter-approved measure states that the cannabis tax rate increases by 2% each July 1st, up to a maximum of 10%, unless the Board of Supervisors votes to hold or reduce the tax rate.

Starting on July 1st, all cannabis business transactions occurring in the unincorporated ares of the County will be assessed at 8%. Reporting and remitting of CBT for the July 2022 period is due on or before the last date of the following month (August 31, 2022).

Please contact the ACTTC Public Service team at [email protected] with any questions. General information about the CBT can be found on the Tax Collecor's CBT Information page.

Note: Businesses operating within the seven incorporated cities in the County should contact their respective cities regarding any taxes owed.
